 Convention Schedule

Banner Parade, 7/5/04
To happen during each event

An alliance of homeless citizens, front-line providers, and advocates for the homeless, with Mel King as our keynote speaker will piggyback on the 2004 Democratic National Convention, Boston, to bring attention to the disgraceful condition that exists in the United States of America; the ever growing and unchecked problem of homelessness. While the whole world is watching, the alliance will convene a meeting of delegates from cities and towns across the nation to establish a national agenda, which will demand elected officials to address the issue of homelessness in America. Among other initiatives the alliance will mobilize the homeless to register to vote and organize grassroots support for the bringing America Home Act that was introduced to the United States Congress on July 25th, 2003.

We are planning events and workshops to empower homeless survivors in America. There will be prominent national and local speakers, celebrities, and community activists who will come together at this vital, historical moment. Our convention is taking place during the same week as the Democratic National Convention, in Boston. We cannot create a national dialogue on this crucial issue without your involvement and collaboration. It would be an important statement of solidarity, to have a representative or delegate from your organization join our consortium for these events during the week of July 25th.

We are also putting together a parade of banners made by homeless survivors, organizations and advocates. PLEASE PARTICIPATE IN THIS ACTIVITY. The more groups that send/bring a banner, the better! This is a project that is not too costly or time consuming, yet has the potential to unify homeless shelters and groups from all around this country. PLEASE PARTICIPATE!!! Just grab an old bed sheet and some spray paint, a marker, or crayons, and write: Who, what, and where you are, in BIG letters. Visit website for more info.

IF YOU HAVE ALREADY SENT A BANNER OR CONTACTED US PLEASE PASS ON THIS INFO TO OTHERS WHO MIGHT BE INTERESTED IN PARTICIPATING. WE NEED YOUR HELP WITH SPREADING THE WORD AND MAKING THIS PROJECT A SUCCESS!!!!

Board Members:

Brenda Walcott, Mel King, Rep. Shirley Owens-Hicks, Marion Gillon, Councilman Chuck Turner, Calvin Hicks
